Ph.D., Comparative Literature at Austin, University of Texas, USA
I totally agree with Han Yu, the great Tang poet and essayist, on his definition of the duties of a teacher: to propagate the doctrine, to impart professional knowledge, and to resolve doubts. Having traveled and explored in the lands of literature, linguistics, and translation for 45 years, I am familiar with most mountains and rivers of these lands. I take great pleasure in working as a guide to show my students around in these lands. I like to help them understand the literary doctrine and develop knowledge and skills in ELT and translation. Among the three duties defined by Han Yu, however, I believe that resolving students’ doubts is the most important task of a good teacher.
