Hugo Tseng, Associate Professor
Ph.D., Linguistics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA
My area of specialization is lexicography, and I am particularly interested in English vocabulary and lexical translation between Chinese and English. The courses I have offered include Introduction to English Linguistics, English Lexicology, English Word-Formation, English Etymology, English Etymological Studies, and two graduate-level seminars on English word-formation. During my off-duty hours, I also serve in several academic societies as a member of their boards, such as the English Teachers Association of the Republic of China, Taiwan Association of Translation and Interpretation, and Asian Association for Lexicography. I was secretary-general of the Taiwan Association of Translation and Interpretation, and founding coordinator of the Dictionary and Corpus Research Center. As a person, I am conscientious and sincere. As a teacher, I am strict yet amiable. I am most impressed by students who take the initiative in learning and are industrious as well as appreciative.
