For being an English majored student, I have to say that it is important to begin at a good starting point when freshmen. In Soochow University , there’s a facility named self-learning center which is definitely helpful for learning a second language, especially English. Most English magazines, such as TIMES and Advanced English, students of Soochow University can use it without fee. Also there are lots of video and tape which can improve your English listening even though you are just watching them. If you want to take TOEIC test, you certainly have to go there and use the materials to do a mock exam for yourself. What’s more, in school library there are many non-print materials, movies and American serial drama.
In addition, if you have the idea to study graduate school in the future, it is better for you to have a good relationship as you can, and keep in communication with professors during these four years. Besides giving class lecture, they can give you much appropriate advice and information as well. Probably you may be a little bit frightened to talk to professors, but actually you can get more than you imagine from their experiences.
While enhancing English abilities in all respects, you can also join an association, taking part in extracurricular activities, having a dinner with friends for relaxing or going out for fun. It is such a precious period. Once you graduate, you might have no leisure time to play around. In college students’ life, you have to not only study hard but also play hard to enjoy all the things when you are young and energetic.
After hanging out with friends, if you still have strength and energy to spare, I’d like to suggest that you must participate in many kinds of volunteer work, meetings and part-time jobs even though without paying. Through accumulating these working experiences together, you can get more idea about your future and career. Sometimes you may want to get pay for extra money, but you have to know the reason why you do this for. The most important reason is that you can make a mistake when you are a student; however once you start your work career, there is no space for a tiny mistake. Therefore, grab your only chance to make mistakes and learn a lesson, also to enjoy your colorful college life!
